Gov. Signs Legislation To Protect Single-Use Plastic Bag Industry For At Least A Year

Legislation which prohibits municipalities from banning single-use plastic bags has been signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf. The new law prohibits municipalities from taxing or banning single-use plastic bags for at least a year while the impacts of possibly doing so can be reviewed. But Representative Greg Vitali says the push for the legislation was made by a plastics manufacturer in Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman’s district, adding that he’s concerned about good public policy being thwarted by political clout.
