Federal Funds Flow To Some Local Elementary Schools To Provide Students Plenty Of Fruits & Veggies

More than 220 elementary schools in the state, including some in our area will receive grants totaling almost $5.5 million to provide students with a greater variety of fresh fruits and vegetables during the school day. The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The Berwick Area School District is receiving the funding for Salem Elementary and West Berwick Elementary Schools. The Shamokin Area School District is receiving the funding for Shamokin Elementary, Shamokin Elementary Annex, and Shamokin Intermediate School.
