The long Independence Day holiday weekend was a busy one for the Pennsylvania State Police. During their Independence holiday enforcement effort from July 3rd through the 7th, State Police troopers responded to 975 crashes, including 8 in which 9 people were killed. There were also 287 crash-related injuries. In addition, troopers made 607 arrests for driving under the influence and issued more than 12,200 tickets for speeding. Only 3 people were killed over the Independence Day holiday in 2018. However, there were only 3 days in the enforcement period last year.
