State Senate Session Wednesday Turned Into A Loud Argument

The state Senate voted Wednesday to repeal a small cash assistance program for the poor--but before it happened, the session devolved into a loud, chaotic argument. Things got out of control when Republicans sought to prevent Democrats from introducing amendments to the bill to end General Assistance, which led to name-calling and senators trying to outshout each other on the floor. Senate President Pro Temp Joe Scarnati says the behavior was unacceptable, adding that when rules aren’t followed chaos takes over. Senate Democratic Leader Jay Costa also expressed disappointment with what happened, calling it unprecedented.
