Gov. Tries Again For State Police Protection Fee

Governor Tom Wolf is once again pushing to impose a fee on municipalities who rely exclusively on the Pennsylvania State Police for law enforcement. Legislation to impose a fee for State Police coverage has been introduced in both the Senate and the House. Currently a good deal of State Police funding comes from the Motor License Fund, but that is being phased out, so Gov. Tom Wolf says the fee is a logical alternative. State Police Commissioner Robert Evanchick says sustainable funding is crucial to the long-term viability of the PSP.
