Business Leaders Concerned About Parking Lot Closures To Deter Block Party Attendees Next Weekend

Some business leaders are expressing concern over a plan by Bloomsburg Police to close downtown municipal parking lots next Saturday, April 13th to deter Block Party attendees. In an email to downtown businesses Columbia Montour Chamber President Fred Gaffney indicated that he and Downtown Bloomsburg Inc. board chair Tim Wagner are planning to attend Monday night’s Town Council meeting to express concerns about the plan being implemented on short notice. Gaffney says that while this has been under consideration for about a year, Police were waiting on a legal opinion before implementing the plan, which they just received this week. The lots will be closed for general metered parking between Midnight Friday and 6pm Saturday, but permit spaces and handicapped spaces in the municipal lots will remain open. Gaffney says police are offering one day permits for business owners and employees for that Saturday.
