HELP Proposed For Pennsylvanians With College Loan Debt

Legislation in the state Senate seeks to ease the burden of student loan debt. The Higher Education Lending Protection or HELP Act would allow borrowers to refinance high-interest debt and provide tax credits for those with outstanding student loans. It would be funded by up to a billion dollars a year in bond financing and administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. Supporters say over 1.8 million Pennsylvanians carry an estimated 68 billion dollars in student loan debt.
