Police report that the number of arrests associated with the annual Block Party weekend in Bloomsburg is trending downward in recent years. Police made 196 arrests during this year’s unsanctioned outdoor partying by Bloomsburg University students and young people from outside the area from Friday, April 12th through Sunday, April 14th. This year’s total is about 50 less than the 245 arrests made in 2018. Arrests peaked at 375 back in 2016. The majority of this year’s arrests were for having an open containers of alcohol on public property, with nearly 100 citations issued for open container violations. Just over 60 party-goers were cited for underage drinking. Otherwise there was a smattering of charges including resisting arrest, aggravated assault of a police officer, drug violations, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct.
