State Prison Official Touts Vocational Programs

More people leaving Pennsylvania state prisons are finding jobs with the help of skills they learned behind bars. Department of Corrections Secretary John Wetzel says culinary arts and fiber optics vocational programs often lead to jobs for inmates after they've been released from prison. Wetzel notes the number of employed people on parole in PA is up 8 percent this year to 65 percent. Officials say employment is important in helping to ensure ex-inmates do not re-offend and return to prison.
