PA Transportation Official Frets Over Mounting Turnpike Debt & Pending Lawsuit

Mounting debt on the Pennsylvania Turnpike was among the topics raised during state budget hearings last week. The Pennsylvania Turnpike is required to pay PennDOT $450 million a year for mass transit projects, but it's gotten behind due to a lawsuit filed against the commission over rising tolls. Total turnpike debt is over $11 billion, more than half of that is related to the commission’s obligations to the state.
