Legislation Unveiled To Help Young Farmers In PA

Legislation in the state Senate seeks to give a boost to young farmers in Pennsylvania who want to sustain their career in agriculture. The bill would create a tax credit when farmland or buildings are transferred, either through sale or lease, to beginning farmers in Pennsylvania. State Senator Elder Vogel says his bill provide an incentive for younger farmers, helping to ensure farmland is affordable and agriculture remains a viable profession. Supporters say that's critical, because for every four farmers in Pennsylvania over the age of 65, there is only one farmer under the age of 35.
