Legislator Wants To Allow Local Leaders To Prohibit Firearms On Muncipal Property

Legislation has been introduced in Harrisburg to allow local officials to regulate firearms on municipal property. Currently state law prohibits county and local governments from passing gun ordinances, but a bill introduced in the state Senate would allow municipalities to restrict the carrying of firearms on property or in buildings they own or operate. It comes at the request of local officials following a pair of deadly shootings in Monroe County-one in August 2013, the other this past November.
