Controversy Over Prayer Given Monday In The PA State House

It was a day of history and controversy in the PA House of Representatives on Monday. The prayer which opens each House session is supposed to be nondenominational, but the one delivered Monday by freshman Rep. Stephanie Borowicz strongly emphasized her Christian beliefs. Democratic leader Frank Dermody called it anything but inspiring, coming the same day as the first female Muslim House member was sworn in. House Speaker Mike Turzai reminded members that the opening prayer is supposed to inspire cooperation.
