Former Northmberland Prothonotary Charged With Stealing $30,000

Former Northumberland County Prothonotary Justin Dunkelberger is facing multiple charges of theft, receiving stolen property, tampering with public records and related crimes. The state Attorney General’s office claims the 41-year-old Dunkelberger wrote two checks from an account in the Prothonotary’s office totally $30,000 made out to a fake company he set-up. The fake company name was similar to a real company name that the county Prothonotary’s office used on a regular basis for document scanning services. Dunkleberger was Prothonotary from 2014 to 2017, but he resigned after he admitted stealing $12,000 from a community scholarship fund to help fund his successful campaign for office.
