After several deadline extensions, Pennsylvania is finally on track to be compliant with the federal Real ID law. Real ID is a post 9/11 reform that requires a tamper-proof form of identification in order to board a commercial flight or enter a federal facility or military installation. Starting in March, PennDOT will begin issuing drivers licenses and photo IDs in compliance with the law. A total of 12 centers will be issuing Real IDs, some as soon as this Friday. Pennsylvanians have until October of next year to obtain one.
