Autopsy Results Released In First Montour County Murder In More Than 8 Years

The Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn says the man killed in a motel last week died of a single gunshot wound to the head with a 9mm gun. 50-year-old Derrick Potts was found dead in his room at the Super 8 Motel in Valley Township at the Danville Interchange of I-80 last Thursday. Potts was working and staying at the motel. 33-year-old David Downing of St. Louis is charged with homicide in the case. Downing's 25-year-old girlfriend is charged with two counts of hindering apprehension and making a false report to police. Downing’s girlfriend told investigators she was smoking marijuana with three men last week and the men raped her and stole her gun. Investigators believe Downing confronted the victim about the alleged rape, and shot him. It has been more than eight years since the last murder was committed in Montour County.
