Danville Police Chief Eric Gill is retiring after more than 30 years on the force. The last 14 years he served as chief. Borough Council accepted his retirement letter at its meeting last night. The 54-year-old Gill’s last day will be November 1st. Although his official retirement date won’t be until May, 2020 due to accumulated time off. Gill says he will begin a full-time job with the Bloomsburg University Police Department on November 5th. Mayor Bernie Swank said Gill has been a “great chief.”
Meanwhile, Construction is underway on the new $1.9 Million Danville Police station on the playground of the former Danville Elementary School along East Front Street in the Borough. The police department has to move because the current building they rent has been sold. The new police department headquarters should be done by Spring.
