State Lawmaker To Introduce Legislation To Focus On Pregnant Women And Drug Use

A bill to be introduced in the state Senate will focus on pregnant women and illegal drug use. The bill is in response to a recent state Supreme Court ruling which says a woman who uses drugs while pregnant can't be punished for any harm to the unborn child, according to the current wording of Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law. The bill would amend the law to hold women accountable. The bill's sponsor says a mother's responsibility begins before her child is born and the law needs to reflect that.
