New Standards Proposed For Oil And Natural Gas Wells In PA

The PA Department of Environmental Protection is proposing new standards to reduce emissions from thousands of the state’s oil and natural gas wells. The proposal is part of Governor Tom Wolf’s strategy to combat methane emissions, part of a larger effort to reduce greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change. Oil and gas drillers are being called on to install devices that detect and control leaks. A trade group for the natural gas industry says it has concerns over cost and the state’s decision to move forward, while the Trump administration considers changes to federal emissions rules.
