Grandparents Caring For Children Of Opioid Addicts

Governor Tom Wolf traveled to Lackawanna County Wednesday to meet with people impacted by the opioid epidemic. In Wilkes-Barre, Governor Wolf talked with grandparents who are raising their grandchildren because their sons or daughters are unable to due to treatment for opioid addictions. The governor says he wants to know what the state can do to help. The governor also reiterated his call for the General Assembly to pass legislation which would allow grandparents to obtain temporary guardianship of their grandchildren while protecting their children's parental rights. It's estimated PA grandparents raising their grandchildren are saving the state a billion dollars by keeping them out of foster care
