New Elevator Safety Law In Place

Legislation aimed at improving elevator safety in Pennsylvania is now law. It's the result of a tragedy 2 years ago. The bill recently signed by Governor Tom Wolf creates an Elevator Safety Board within the Department of Labor and Industry. Prior to the summer recess, Senator Lisa Baker said this measure was the result of a tragic 2016 accident at the Luzerne County Prison involving Kristopher Moules, a corrections officer and a family friend. Baker says the Elevator Safety Board will conduct a monthly review of issues related to elevator construction, maintenance and inspection, and will also have regulatory authority.
