Bridge Fencing Over Interstate

A new Pennsylvania law requires protective fencing on certain state-owned bridges. Act 65 of 2018 directs PennDOT to install fencing when it builds or upgrades a bridge with a sidewalk or a concrete barrier over an interstate or freeway. The bill was written following a 2014 incident in which teenagers threw a rock from an Interstate 80 overpass in Union County and critically injured an Ohio woman. Sharon Budd suffered catastrophic head injuries and lost an eye when the rock crashed through her windshield.
