Dairy Industry

Pennsylvania's dairy industry is nervously watching and waiting as international trade tensions continue to rise. Pennsylvania has the 2nd-most dairy farms in the U.S. - 16% of the nation's total, generating some $15 billion a year. Recent rhetoric over tariffs and trade wars have dairy farmers concerned, and while David Smith with the Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association acknowledges that tariffs are high in Canada, he says farmers are worried about disrupting an important status quo. Smith says trade tensions with Mexico and China are also a big concern.
