State Budget
The state budget for the fiscal year that begins July first has cleared its first hurdle. The House Appropriations Committee has given unanimous approval to a 32.7 billion dollar state budget that holds the line on spending and doesn't include a tax increase. The plan is winning praise from House leadership for a number of reasons. Chief among them along with the lack of a tax hike, 140 - million dollars for education at all levels including 60 million for security, along with a 20-million-dollar deposit into the state's Rainy Day Fund.
