Pennsylvania has been awarded $5-million dollars in federal funding to provide outreach and other services to homeless individuals and families. The funds are provided through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's Emergency Solutions Grant Program. Michael Gerber, spokesman for the PA Dept. of Community and Economic Development, says there is no one cause of homelessness, so the solutions also have to be varied. The grants, awarded to 25 counties and two social service agencies will be used for street outreach, emergency shelters, and homelessness prevention, among other services. As of 2017, 11 out of every ten thousand people in Pennsylvania was counted as homeless.
