2018 Could Be Record Year For PA Natural Gas Industry

Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry is expected to hit a new record in 2018. According to the Pittsburgh-based Marcellus Shale Coalition, natural gas production could exceed 6-trillion cubic feet by the end of the year. Officials say the uptick is due in part to improved efficiency, with operators drilling longer wells that extend on average 10,000 feet horizontally underground. In addition, pipelines such as the Atlantic Sunrise in eastern PA are coming online, giving drillers greater ability to get their gas to market.
