Combating Opoid Crisis In State Prisons

The use of medication to help treat opioid addiction is being expanded in the state prison system, to assist the majority of inmates who are eventually released. Steve Seitchik, the DOC's Medication Assisted Treatment Coordinator says the use of methadone, suboxone and related drugs make addiction similar to treating any other chronic disease. The expansion of medication assisted treatment in state prisons is part of a larger campaign taking place this week, known as Stop Overdoses in PA-Get Help Now.
