Books And Magazines Possible Vector For Drugs To Inmates

The state Department of Corrections has announced a new policy for sending books and magazines to inmates in an effort to keep drugs out of state prisons. Under the new policy books and magazines will be sent to a Security Processing Center where they will be screened for drugs and other contraband before going to inmates. Department of Corrections spokesperson Amy Worden says the new policy is in response to concerns raised about an initial idea to have the DOC handle book ordering in an effort to keep drugs out of the prison system. Worden says the new policy will allow book donation groups to continue to send books to inmates who will also be able to order books through catalogues as well as purchase eBooks.
