Centralia Church Featured In Reader's Digest Story

A church in Centralia is featured in a well-known, national magazine. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Centralia is the cover story for the December/January edition of Reader’s Digest. The article about the church is titled “The church that wouldn’t burn.” The church has been gaining attention since 2015 when the head of Ukrainian Catholic Church, visited America and requested to see the church surviving in a town known worldwide for its underground mine fire. After the Major-Archbishop’s visit, to the thriving church in what is otherwise a ghost town, he said he felt a sense of true holiness, and he was moved to establish the church as a pilgrimage site.
