Senate Passes Domestic Protection Bill

Like the House last week, the state Senate has approved legislation which supporters say will reduce deaths from domestic violence. The Senate voted 43 to 5 in favor of a bill requiring the subject of a protection from abuse order to relinquish all firearms within 24 hours. The brief debate was generally in favor of the bill, but Senator James Brewster who voted yes, warned this issue is far from solved. Governor Tom Wolf issued a statement saying he will sign the measure, thanking advocates for their work on behalf of victims of domestic violence.
