Insurance Agreement Provides For Opioid Treatment

An agreement between the Wolf Administration and the state's 7 largest commercial health insurers seeks to reduce barriers to treatment for Pennsylvania residents suffering from opioid addictions. The agreement with Aetna, Capitol Blue Cross, Geisinger Health Plan, Highmark, Independence Blue Cross, United Healthcare and UPMC Health Plan seeks to combat the opioid epidemic while improving access to treatment. It requires pre-authorization for many opioid prescriptions, removes pre-authorization for medication assisted treatment for opioid addiction and ensures access to the opioid overdose reversal antidote Naloxone.
