Columbia and Montour counties are among 17 Pennsylvania counties affected by severe flooding this past summer that are eligible for federal grants to help with restoration efforts. A total of $6-1/4 million dollars has been set aside for counties to restore local waterways and stream banks, and to help guard against future flooding in those areas. Unlike similar grants, counties will not have to come up with matching funds. Neil Shader, a spokesman for the PA Department of Environmental protection, says there isn’t a lot of time to apply, with the deadline coming up on October 15th. In addition to Columbia and Montour...other eligible counties include Luzerne, Lycoming, Schuylkill, and Sullivan counties.
