Bloomsburg Robbery

A 22 – year old man remains on the loose this morning after he and a partner allegedly pistol – whipped a Bloomsburg University student during a robbery Sunday night. Police now on the lookout for Samuel Jeannot... a BU student from the Philadelphia area. Jeannot and a second man... 24 – year old Carlin Edwards a former BU student... allegedly attacked Jeffrey Rush... a BU senior... behind Elwell Hall. Police believe Rush was targeted by the two men. Edwards was captured moments after the incident... arraigned Monday and remains in the Columbia County Prison with bail set at $100,000.

 

PennDOT / Aggressive Drivers

Police in Bloomsburg... South Centre... Hemlock and Montour Townships... as well as the Pennsylvania State Police are taking part in trying to get aggressive drivers off the road. It's a PennDOT program with funding filtering down to the agencies. PennDOT spokesman David Thompson says aggressive driving is a big problem in Columbia and Montour Counties. Tracking down aggressive drivers runs through April... with a big push expected this Friday.

 

Board Vacancies

If you live in Bloomsburg... and want something to do with a meaningful purpose. Town government is looking for folks to fill some vacancies on various boards. Mayor Dan Knorr says vacancies currently exist on the Historic Review Board... an alternate for the zoning hearing board... the shade tree commission.... as well as four openings on the code of appeals board.

 

Gas Island Fire

Some tense moments Monday afternoon.... when smoke was seen coming from one of the pump islands at the Fuel On convenience store at the corner of 7th and Market Streets in Bloomsburg. Bloomsburg firemen were on the scene in a matter of moments to check things out... so says Fire Chief Bob Rupp. There was very little damage, if any, to one of the two pumps on the island.

 

Nanticoke Teacher

A Nanticoke Area High School teacher is being investigated after allegations were made by three female students. The name of the male teacher in question has not been released... the alleged incident is being described as misconduct... as well as inappropriate contact with the students. After the allegations were made... the teacher was suspended from his job.

 

NEPA Gas Prices

Your dollar will go a little bit further at the gas pumps these days. The latest Triple A Fuel Gauge report shows self – serve, unleaded regular averaging $3.66 a gallon... more in some locations... less at others. That's what it was over the weekend. In the past week... the average price of a gallon of gas has dropped 11 cents.

 

Mt. Carmel Fire

A 13 – year old Mt. Carmel teenager is in trouble with the law. The teen admitting to police he set a vacant building on North Chestnut Street on fire Sunday night to keep warm. A 12 – year old companion is also in trouble. Authorities say the building has been vacant for the past three years. The 13 – year old is charged with arson... the 12 – year old with trespassing.

 

Sullivan County Dispute

A Sullivan County man is locked up after he was charged with making terrorist threats. State Police at Laporte say 18 – year old Hunter Austin of Sonestown got into an argument with his mother... 54 – year old Cynthia. During the spat... the younger Austin is allegedly to have thrown items at his mother... using a kitchen knife to threaten her. Police were called and Hunter Austin was arrested. He was arraigned before a district magistrate and remanded to the Wyoming County Correctional Facility when he couldn't post $10,000 bail.

Ms. Dalious

Any girl who has played a high school sport in this area since 1963 owes a debt of gratitude to Freda Dalious who passed away on Sunday at age 74. When Dalious was hired as a physical education teacher at Southern Columbia there were no girls sports teams at the school and few in the region. Dalious formed and coached field hockey, softball and girls basketball. In 30 years as a coach her combined record in those three sports was 729 wins, 308 losses, and 34 ties.

 

BU Softball

Bloomsburg University softball player Kate Paine has been named the PSAC Central Division pitcher of the week. Paine, a senior, won two games for the Huskies in a tournament in Salem, Virginia.

 

NBA 

In the NBA Monday night, the Miami Heat extended their winning streak to 23 games with a 105-103 win over the Celtics in Boston. In other action, the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Portland Trailblazers 101-100.

 

NHL

In the NHL.... the Tampa Bay Lightening out-skated the Philadelphia Flyers 4 to 2.
