The free Saturday Trains program at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church is open today. The church is located at the corner of Pine and East Market Streets in Danville.
The Loose Ties Model Railroad Club will open their display of trains at the Columbia Mall this weekend. They are open from 11 to 5 today and Noon to 4 tomorrow. They will be giving away a free train worth over $200 this weekend.
St. Columba Church presents their Winterfest 2012 today. It's the 8th annual craft and food festival happening at the church, which is located at the corner of 3rd and Iron Streets in Bloomsburg.
First English Baptist Church is hosting Mission Mall today in their downstairs social room. It's an alternative gift-giving fair, where you can donate in the name of someone else for their gift this season.
Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Catawissa's breakfast for a donation today benefits the Wesley Soup Kitchen and AGAPE.
The Mill-Green United Methodist Crhuch is hosting a hymn sing tonight at 7:00 PM. Refreshments will follow the program. The church is located on Old Greenwood Road, about three miles out of Millville.
The Potts Grove Fire Company is serving up their monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet tomorrow from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Brunch is served starting at 10:00 AM.
The Kidsburg 2.0 committee hopes you'll dine out at the Turkey Hill Brewing Company tomorrow from 4:00 to 9:00 PM. Your meal will help them raise funds to re-build Kidsburg in Bloomsburg Town Park.
On Monday night you can “Shop the Bloomsburg Public Library.” Stop by the library to look through the goodies from the Monday night knitting club, different wood workings, the library's first craft book, and all sorts of other things. A great way to kick off your holiday shopping. They are located on Market Street in Bloomsburg.
Next Thursday is Thanksgiving, and it's also the 103rd annual Run For The Diamonds in Berwick. The race starts at 10:30 AM. You can hear the race right here on the WHLM Stations.
And, next Friday Santa Claus will come to town in The WHLM Parade of Lights. The parade route will leave the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital parking lot, travel down Lightstreet Road, onto Main Street, turning down Market, and finally finish at the Bloomsburg Fire Department. The parade starts at 6:00 PM. You can be a part of the parade for a chance to win $1,000, $500, or $250 if you have one of the top three entries. For entry information click the link to the right.
Right after the parade next Friday Santa Claus will be back at his cottage in front of the Bloomsburg Diner to light the Bloomsburg Christmas tree!
The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team played at Penn State-Hazleton last night. Bloomsburg coming away with a 79 – 78 victory.
High School Football
Three area high school football teams have playoff games this weekend. Friday night Southern Columbia beat South Williamsport at Tiger Stadium in the District 4 Class A final 47-12. Danville won at home against Athens in a District 4 Class AA semifinal 14-13. You can hear all the details from Friday's action in the WHLM Friday Night Football Update:
Saturday afternoon, Berwick faced Abington Heights in the District 2 Class AAA final at Crispin Field. The teams went back and forth but the game ultimately ended in a 44-34 win for Abington Heights.
The Bloomsburg University football team reached the post season this year for the 9th time in school history. Saturday the Huskies once again met Shippensburg in an NCAA Division 2 first round game. BU could not overcome the Red Raiders' offence and the game ended 50-20 in favor of Shippensburg.
