New Jobs

50 new jobs are headed to K-Fab in Berwick. That word coming from the state and local officials. K-Fab will expand its operations to support growth in the Marcellus shale field. The company will also invest an estimated $2.4 million in renovations... infrastructure improvement... new equipment and employee training. The expansion was possible due to state tax credits... grants... and loans. When the fifty additional employees are hired... K-Fab will have an estimated 300 people on their payroll.


Bloomsburg Budget

Bloomsburg Town Council got their first look Monday night at the proposed budget for 2013. And... if everything was approved... it would contain a million dollar deficit since department heads have included items... such as new cars and personnel... as well as new capital expenditures. But, Bloomsburg Mayor Dan Knorr says what was unveiled Monday night... is far from what the final spending plan will look like. Council's next budget session is scheduled for the second week in November.


FEMA Exercise

FEMA says it will conduct an emergency drill at PPL's Susquehanna nuclear plant in Salem Township sometime this week. The purpose... trying to gauge the state's ability to respond to an emergency at the plant along Route 11. Also being assessed... is local emergency response capabilities within ten miles of the plant. Preliminary findings will be unveiled Friday at midday... with a final report due out early next year.


Window Painting

All up and down Main Street in Bloomsburg... you've probably noticed the transformation of the windows of most businesses. Downtown Bloomsburg Manager Adrienne Mael says it's all part of a window painting contest involving middle and high school students from area school districts. 45 businesses are taking part in the event... with 51 of their windows getting a make over. The windows will eventually be judged by three members of Bloomsburg Town Council.


Traffic Signals

There will be some changes starting Tuesday at the intersection of Route 42 and Perry Avenue in Hemlock Township near Bloomsburg. After several months of work... the new traffic lights will be placed on “flash”. PennDOT spokesman Rick Mason says they'll remain that way for the next week... then starting next Tuesday... they'll be fully activated. The new signals... along with adding a turning lanes... should make the area safer to drive.



A Luzerne County man now faces felony charges after he allegedly shot at a Pennsylvania State Trooper earlier this year. 28 – year old William Gornosky of Nanticoke is accused of taking a couple of shots at a state trooper during a high speed pursuit in Plymouth Township. He was eventually arrested on robbery and burglary charges... and since that time he's been held in the Luzerne County jail on $100,000 bail.


Hazleton Cops

Trying to make ends meet... that's what Hazleton Police Chief Frank DeAndrea was doing over the weekend while out patrolling the streets due to a shortage of officers. That's when he became involved in a high speed chase... eventually taking out the 20 – year old woman who was high on drugs and booze. The woman was not injured and taken to jail. DeAndrea's patrol time doesn't cost the city... since he is a salaried employee and not an hourly worker.


Chainsaw Attack

A weekend attack by a man with a chainsaw has a 76 year old man behind bars in Northumberland County. Police say the attack took place in Delaware Township... near Turbotville... when 59 – year old Ronald Tanner locked out Guy Black from the home they share. Black... not a bit happy... grabbed a chainsaw and started swinging it towards Tanner... nipping Tanner in the process. Police were called in... and they hustled Black to a near by magistrate... who ordered the man to prison on $100,000 bail.


Gas Prices

The price of gas continues to fall across all of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The latest Triple - A Fuel Gauge survey shows that self – serve, unleaded regular is averaging $3.76 a gallon... down a penny from the weekend. It's also down ten cents from a week ago. The price is expected it's downward trend thank to refineries changing over to their less expensive winter blend.... as well as pipeline distribution problems resolved.

BU Football

When the Bloomsburg University football team plays at Shippensburg Saturday in a battle of unbeaten teams, the game will not only decide the PSAC East title, but it will have playoff implications as well. The first rankings of the Super Region One were released Monday. Shippensburg is first in the region and Bloomsburg is 3rd. The top 6 teams in those rankings at the end of the regular season will make it to the NCAA playoffs.


HS Golf

Four area high school golfers will be competing for medals when the Boys Class AA state championships conclude Tuesday at Heritage Hills in York. Medals go to the top ten finishers. In yesterday's first round, Danville's Robbie Seebold shot a 78 and is tied for 9th. C.J. Hollister of Central Columbia and Austin Renz of Danville both shot 79's and are tied for 15th. Central's Derek Duttrey shot an 82 and is tied for 21st.



In the NFL... in Monday Night Football... the Chicago Bears defeated the Detroit Lions 13 to 7.



The San Francisco Giants finally won their first winner-take-all Game 7 to capture the National League pennant and advance to the 108th edition of the World Series. The convincing 9-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals completed another series comeback and sealed the Giants' second trip to the Fall Classic in three years. They'll face the AL champion Detroit Tigers in San Fran Wednesday night in the best of seven series.
