The supplier of water to Bloomsburg and the surrounding area... has placed a newly re-located line into service. United Water's Bob Manbeck says the 16 – inch transmission line is 2,000 feet long and is buried under the Rail Trail near the water plant...off Millville Road. The project cost the company an estimated $253,000... but the new line will assure customers, particularly on the west end of Bloomsburg, constant pressure coming from the tap.
A memorial service will be held next Saturday for a Benton teenager who died in a one – car crash this week. 17 – year old Ashley Reabuck of Market Street in Benton died when her '97 Toyotaa Camry ran off the Zehner – Rohrsburg Road in Fishing Creek TownshipWednesdayy night... overturning when it went down an embankment. State police say she was not wearing a seat belt... and was partially ejected through the car's sunroof. Ms. Reabuck's memorial service will be held October 6th at 2 O'clock... at the Benton Park.
Fair Skyride / Paul Reichart
He said he didn't like it when it was first proposed... and then built it... but Bloomsburg Fair Association President Paul Reichart is singing a different tune these days about the Sky Ride. The newest attraction at this year's Fair has been running at capacity since it opened last Saturday... and that makes Reichart happy. By the time the 2013 Bloomsburg Fair rolls around... an additional 60 chairs will be added. The attraction was purchased and is operated by Reithoffer Shows... who then split the proceeds with the Fair Board.
Despite Thursday's weather... Fair officials say 47,620 guests came through the turnstiles. Thats up from 13,800 who visited on the sixth day of the exposition back in 2010... the last time the fair was held.
Wilkes – Barre / Scranton Airport
It's the busiest transportation hub northeast Pennsylvania... and Friday the Wilkes – Barre / Scranton Airport in Avoca will have a new control tower to use. U.S. Transportation secretary Ray LaHood... and officials from the Federal Aviation Administration will be at airport to dedicate a new... $21 – million air traffic control tower. The new facility will allow controllers to get air traffic into and out of the area safely.
With the presidential election six weeks away... Luzerne County is trying to find a director of elections. Current interim director... Tom Pizano... is retiring at the end of business Friday. That has the Luzerne County Commission scrambling to find a replacement. Commissioners will meet Friday to discuss the situation... and go over a list of people who have applied for the job.
Two former bank buildings in downtown Hazleton have been given ten years of tax breaks by the city's school board. On a vote of 6 to 3 Thursday night... the board gave their okay to take properties at 101 West Broad and 2 East Broad Streets off the tax rolls. The building are in the Keystone Opportunity Expansion zones. The district will lose an estimated $20,000 dollars a year.
There will soon be changes in top management at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs casino in Luzerne County. CEO Bobby Soper will leave the Plains Township gaming facility in late October... taking over the top spot at the company's casino in Connecticut. Pocono's assistant GM, Mike Bean, will take over Soper's job.

A match up of unbeaten teams highlights this weekend's high school football schedule. Danville and Central Columbia, both 4-0, met Friday night at Central in our game of the week. Central Columbia remained the unbeaten victor with a 21-7 win against Danville.
Berwick and Selinsgrove held eachother to a low scoring game that ended in a 17-7 Berwick victory.
In other action Friday night Southern Columbia trounced previously unbeaten Muncy 47-7, and Bloomsburg beat Montgomery 48-21. On Saturday afternoon... Columbia Montour Vo Tech is at home against Wellsboro.

In Thursday night NFL action.... the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Cleveland Browns 23 to 16.
The Philadelphia Phillies took it on the chin last night... as they were defeated by the Washington Nationals 7 to 3. Washington's Gio Gonzalez became the first 21 game winner in the majors. The Phil's are now on the brink of post – season elimination. Philadelphia now moves on to meet the Marlins in South Florida for a weekend series. They lost the first game of the series by a score of 2-1 on Friday night.
