12:00PM 2:30PM Empty Bowls Banquet The Bloomsburg Food Cupboard is hosting an Empty Bowls Banquet on Sunday, March 10th from 11 AM to 1:30 PM in the Kehr Union Ballroom at Bloomsburg University. 1 out of 8 Americans is food insecure and are forced to choose between medical needs, work, transportation, or buying food. The Empty Bowls Banquet is a soup tasting fundraising event. Soups will be generously donated by area restaurants and community members. Minimum donation is $10 for you and $5 for children 5 and up. Decorated event bowls can also be purchased for $10. All proceeds benefit the Bloomsburg Food Cupboard, a ministry of St. Columba Church.
1:00PM 5:00PM Loose Ties Loose Ties will open its huge display at the Columbia Mall on Saturday March 9th as well as Sunday March 10th. The display will be open on Saturday from noon to 5 PM and Sunday from noon to 4 PM.
1:30PM 6:00PM 31 Purse Bingo The Animal Resource Center is sponsoring a 31 Purse Bingo on Sunday March 10th at the Espy Fire Hall. Doors open at 12:30 PM and the games begin at 1:45. Food and baked goods will also be available. 20 games for $20. Tickets are available at the door.
1:30PM 3:00PM Bloomsburg Explores The Bloomsburg University Institute for Culture and Society present their program “Bloomsburg Explores… Community, Arts, and the 2011 Flood” on Friday March 8th, Saturday March 9th, and Sunday March 10th. On Friday, Arlene Goldbard will give her presentation “Tell It! How Shaping Our Stories Shapes Our Lives and Communities”, from 5 to 6:30 PM in room 1303 of the McCormick building on the university campus. On Saturday, join Arlene Goldbard and Gerard Stropnicky will discuss “What Happens When Communities Participate in Telling Their Own Stories”, at 4:30 PM at the Alvina Krause Theatre on Center Street. On Sunday, Gerard Stropnicky will present “Flood Stories, Too: Context ad Process”, from 12:30 to 2 PM at the Moose Exchange on Main Street in Bloomsburg.
3:00PM 6:00PM Flood Stories, Too The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble joins the Bloomsburg University Players and the Bloomsburg Bicentennial Choir to present Flood Stories, Too. They transform your words and your stories about the record-breaking flood caused by Tropical storm Lee in the fall of 2011 into an epic production of heartbreak and survival. Performances will be from March 7th to March 17th. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evening performances begin at 7:30 PM. There are also afternoon performances on Saturday at 2PM and Sunday at 3 PM. All performances are pay what you wish.
All Day Flood Stories, Too The BU Players join forces with BTE and the Bloomsburg Bicentennial Choir to present “Flood Stories, Too”, from March 7th to March 17th at the Alvina Krause Theater. “Flood Stories, Too” is a transformation of your words and stories about the record-breaking flooding in the Fall of 2011 following Tropical Storm Lee. All Day Bloomsburg University Chamber Orchestra The Bloomsburg University Chamber Orchestra is performing its Spring Concert on March 10th at 2:30 P.M. at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church in Bloomsburg. The concert will feature Cathal Breslin on piano.
All Day Scriptual Lenten Series St. Cyril Spiritual Center in Danville is hosting a Scriptural Lenten Series starting Monday February 18th for 7 consecutive Mondays. The sessions will be held morning and evening…with the hope to help participants grow progressively in grace and in spiritual freedom. You can attend one day or the entire series. All Day Egg Hunt for Endometriosis The Bloomsburg University Campus Leadership and Office of Residence Life are hosting an Egg Hunt for Endometriosis on Sunday March 10th. Ages 5 and under will be at 2 PM and ages 6 to 12 will be at 2:45 PM. Both groups can register outside on Schuylkill Hall lawn on the campus. University Students will get to participate at 3:30 PM and can register at the Columbia Hall Basketball Court. Please arrive ½ hour before the start time of you group and bring your own bag. Entrance fee is $2 per person. All funds raised will be donated to the Endometriosis Association.
All Day American Cancer Societ Wig Program The American Cancer Society is providing free wigs and head coverings for any woman who is experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. According to a recent study, nearly 60 percent of women consider hair loss the most dreaded side effect of cancer treatment. Appointments for the wig program can be made by calling 1-800-227-2345.
All Day Art Installation Project Bloomsburg University’s Haas Center for the Arts will soon become home to an original art piece designed to celebrate the collaboration of the university and the greater Bloomsburg community. The piece, titled Confluence, will be a 7 foot by 60 foot depiction of the growth and activity of a small town and how the beauty of nature has inspired a wealth of visual art and cultural enrichment in the area. 19 Susquehanna River Artists have collaborated to construct 18 large tiles that will be installed every two weeks until the piece is completed on May 3rd.
