Abington Heights at Berwick November 17


Abington Heights ended Berwick's hopes for the school's first district footbal title since 2008 with a 44-35 win over the Bulldogs at Crispin Field. The Comets' offense which had not scored a point in eight straight quarters in their past two games came to life against Berwick as they built a 24-14 halftime lead, a lead they never relinquished. The final result spoiled a great performance by Berwick senior Jeff Steeber who had 178 yards rushing and four touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 61 yards. With the win Abington Heights improves to 10-2 and advances into the state playoffs to take on Allentown Central Catholic. The loss ended Berwick's six game wining streak. The Bulldogs end the season with a 10-2 record.


Dallas at Berwick 11/10


With Berwick trailing 7-6 late in the third quarter, junior quarterback C.J. Curry hooked up with wide receiver Jeff Steeber on a 4th and 23 pass play to the Dallas five yard line. Then early in the final period, Matt Cashman scored from five yards out to give Berwick a lead they never relinquished in a 28-7 win. Berwick's other 4th quarter scores came on a 34 yard run by Steeber and a 17 yard interception return for a score by Zach Ladonis. Sophomore Olivia Seeley kicked a first quarter field goal and two extra points as the Bulldogs improved to 10-1 going into next Saturday afternoon's District 2 final against Abington Heights at Crispin Field. Dallas ended their season at 7-4.

Hazleton Area at Berwick 11/2


Berwick outgained Hazleton Area 177 yards to 16 in building a 29-0 lead at halftime and went on to beat the Cougars 49-7. Senior running back Matt Cashamn had three short touchdown runs giving him 20 rushing scores for the season. Junior quarterback C.J. Curry threw a 52 yard touchdown pass to Jeff Steeber. It was the 15th touchdown pass of the season for Curry who completed 9 of 12 passes for 134 yards. Linebacker Travis Potter ran 38 yards with a recovered fumble for a score and sophomore Nate Maczuga ran 49 yards for a touchdown as the Bulldogs finished the regular season with a six game winning streak and a 9-1 record. They will host a District 2 AAA semifinal next Saturday afternoon. Hazleton Area finished the season at 1-9.
